I Am Not A Robot is a portfolio exchange organized for Southern Graphics International 2024 Conference Verified By Proof in Providence, Rhode Island.

Within the context of the digital world we inhabit, where modern technology and AI are being increasingly used for artistic means, this portfolio focuses on human identity. What is the role of technology in the print and art world? What does it mean to be an artist and a printmaker in a progressively digital society? What does it mean to be human in a world filled with robots?

This exchange brought together artists to collaborate on a pair of prints. Artists applied as pairs, with each accepted pair being tasked with making two editions. With a minimum of two layers on each print, each edition features the imprint of each artist. Through the exchange of prints and the collaborative nature of this portfolio, each artist “verified” that they are in fact human, and thus, not a robot.

The prints in this portfolio reflect the work of artists from across the globe as far as Australia and New Zealand, as well as a good group from the state of Georgia. Each pair collaborated however was most appropriate. Some artists actively sent each other prints back and forth through the mail, others worked together in person to create a cohesive set of prints. Ultimately, the goal of this portfolio was to foster real life human relationships through collaborative art making, and reflect on that ultimate request to verify our humanity that we are all to familiar with in the online realm.
