Based on a photograph taken in the aftermath of a fire at South River Studios in early November 2025, this print depicts a piece I had in a printmaking exhibition, En Masse, that was on view at the time. All the work in the show was lost or permanently damaged in the fire. I was fortunate to have only lost some works on paper, albeit one-of-a-kind works, while other artists lost entire studios and bodies of work. This photograph shows one of lost prints on the floor in a broken frame, water damage on the walls and soot covering the floor.
The image and moment struck me as more meaningful than the print in that frame - particularly in this tenuous era of tyranny and division that we live in, and thus I was compelled to make a print of it!
Initial sales of this print led to $250 donated back to artists at South River Studios
